The U.S. DOE National Lab system has been the backbone of the U.S. nuclear discovery, design, and innovation since its inception in the 1930s and 40s. The ANS Young Members Group is excited to present a series of webinars meant to highlight each DOE lab's unique history, main research focus areas, and contributions to the U.S. and global nuclear industry.

An 890-square-mile site located west of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) was founded in 1949 as the National Reactor Testing Station (NRTS) and has evolved through several name and management iterations since then. INL Lab Director Mark Peters and panelists will discuss what the lab currently considers as its most important research and development initiatives – ranging from new demonstration reactors to integrated energy systems to space reactors – and what to expect in the future. Did you know that INL has built and operated 52 nuclear reactors (so far) of various types since its founding in 1949?
