TerraPower begins U.K. regulatory approval process
Seattle-based TerraPower signaled its interest this week in building its Natrium small modular reactor in the United Kingdom, the company announced.
TerraPower sent a letter to the U.K.’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, formally establishing its intention to enter the U.K. generic design assessment (GDA) process. This is TerraPower’s first step in deployment of its Natrium technology—a 345-MW sodium fast reactor coupled with a molten salt energy storage unit—on the international stage.
ANS is committed to encouraging all people to enter and flourish in the field of nuclear science and technology. In fulfilling this commitment, ANS will provide travel compensation of up to $1,000 for current student members, who come from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, to attend the 2025 ANS Annual Conference taking place in Chicago, IL, June 15-18, 2025.The application is open to all student members of ANS, with consideration given to those from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, including students from working-class and rural communities, first-generation college students, and others who bring diverse perspectives to the field. Previous receipt of travel funding, though not a disqualifying factor, will be taken into consideration.

Must be an ANS student member. We strongly encourage applications from students whose backgrounds reflect the diversity of the nuclear science and technology community, particularly those who have faced economic, geographic, or social barriers. This includes but is not limited to:
Our evaluators will review each candidate carefully, and notify recipients of the awards by June 1. Recipients attending the meeting will be allowed to submit receipts of their travel expenses and receive reimbursement (up to $1,000).
Authorized travel expenses include:
All applicants are encouraged to sign-up for the Student Program to earn reimbursement for their registration fees and maximize their travel grant.
Within two weeks after attending the conference, grant recipients are required to submit both an expense report with receipts along with a grant report outlining the personal benefits received from the grant and from attending the conference. All reports should be sent to scholarships@ans.org.
