Information to Gather

Collecting the following information will help you complete the online application:

  • Department Chair – The name and email address of the department chair at your university. The department chair will be asked to verify your enrollment.
  • Current Transcript – The name, email address, and phone number of your faculty advisor or school's registrar's office to send a request for transcripts. Please note most schools use a third party, such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or Credentials Solutions, to process transcript requests. Please follow your institution's procedures for requesting transcripts. Unofficial transcripts are accepted but can only be submitted by the institution. Applicants who send this request to themselves will be disqualified. School officials can submit transcripts via email as a PDF to: scholarships@ans.org or mail hard copies to American Nuclear Society, c/o Scholarships, 1111 Pasquinelli Dr. Suite 350, Westmont, Illinois 60559
  • References - The name, email address, and phone number of two (2) individuals who are familiar with your qualifications. References should come from people who are familiar with your academic abilities, achievements, community involvement, and/or potential for college success. At least one reference should be from a teacher/professor, counselor/advisor, or principal. The other recommendation could be from an employer or a community member. References should not come from an immediate family member, classmate, peer, or friend. References will receive an email with a personal URL to answer specific questions about your academic performance and will have the opportunity to add additional comments (up to 500 words).
  • Extracurricular Activities - A listing of offices held, athletics, clubs, etc.
  • Professional Experiences - A listing of internships and volunteerism, including your contributions within the ANS either locally or at the national level.
  • Academic honors and awards - Dean's list, honor societies (i.e. Alpha Nu Sigma), etc.
  • Employment - A listing of relevant work experience including and military.
  • Personal Statement - This essay question this year is, "Describe in 500 words or less what made you choose a nuclear related STEM career (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)".
  • Research – If you plan on applying for any scholarships named after someone, you should research the individual the award is named after. This may be useful if the application requires an additional essay.
