West Valley shares 3D model and lessons learned

A virtual meeting between representatives of the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) in New York and the Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) in Tennessee was held recently to share lessons learned from the ongoing demolition of West Valley’s main plant process building.

DOE awards $3 billion West Valley D&D contract to BWXT JV

The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management announced it has awarded a 10-year, $3 billion contract to West Valley Cleanup Alliance (WVCA) for decommissioning and demolition work at the West Valley Demonstration Project in western New York. WVCA is a newly formed limited liability company made up of BWXT Technical Services Group, Jacobs Technology, and Geosyntec Consultant. Teaming subcontractors include Perma-Fix Environmental Services and North Wind Portage.

The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM) said it has met one of its cleanup priorities for 2022 by beginning demolition of the Main Plant Process Building (MPPB) at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) in New York. Located 35 miles south of Buffalo, the 150-acre WVDP site is home to the only commercial spent nuclear fuel reprocessing facility to operate in the United States.
