Michael Schlender, former deputy director at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, is joining Longenecker & Associates’ corporate advisory board, effective in January.

About Schlender: He has more than 30 years of experience in the U.S. national laboratory complex, including serving in senior leadership roles at PNNL and Brookhaven National Laboratory.

He is also the recipient of the secretary of energy’s Exceptional Service Award for his service to the Department of Energy, advancing excellence in operations across the national laboratory system.

Schlender holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biochemistry from Eastern Washington University, and a master’s degree in chemistry from Western Washington University.

A new engineering scholarship at Washington State University (WSU) Tri-Cities has been established by Longenecker & Associates for students interested in careers that support Department of Energy missions.

L&A to increase support for Post Foundation STEM scholarships

To honor the 50th anniversary of Waste Management Symposia (WMS), Longenecker & Associates (L&A) has announced an increase in its financial support for WMS’s scholarship efforts.

Since launching a 10-year commitment in 2019, L&A has contributed $125,000 to the Post Foundation, which provides scholarships for students pursuing careers in the safe management in nuclear materials and supports their participation in the annual WMS conference on the management of radioactive waste and related topics.

Waste Management Symposia (WMS), which hosts the annual Waste Management Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., is launching a new effort along with Longenecker & Associates to support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education efforts to attract and build the next-generation nuclear workforce. The engineering, environmental, and nuclear services company Spectra Tech is joining the initiative by matching Longenecker & Associates' contributions to the program.
