Know a teacher who would like to win prizes for her/his classroom? Let them know!
The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is a proud and active partner of Nuclear Science Week. ANS recommends that everyone share their tweets using the event hashtag: #NuclearSciWeek.
Now is a great time to excite students about learning nuclear science and technology. The information in nuclear technology is growing. ANS is here to help you do it, with information, resources, and a little incentive.
The American Nuclear Society wants to see how you and your classroom celebrate Nuclear Science Week. Tweet photos and ANS will reward those who share the most.
Here's how to play
Throughout Nuclear Science Week (October 17-21), tweet photos of your explorations in nuclear science and technology using #ANSNSW16 and @ans_org.
Here's how to win
The teacher posting the most tweets during NSW will win a working vintage Geiger Muller counter. Runner-up prizes, donated by ANS' Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Information and the National Nuclear Science and History Museum, include:
- Two copies of "Amelia Lost: The Live and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart"
- Four sets of colorful "Did You Know?" bookmarks detailing nuclear science facts
- Three laminated Periodic Tables of the Elements
- Three printed and bound copies of our Radiation Teacher Resource Guide

Celebrating All Aspects of Nuclear Science, Oct. 17-21, 2016
So what is Nuclear Science Week (NSW)? It's an international, broadly observed week-long celebration to focus local, regional, national and international interest on all aspects of nuclear science. NSW takes place each year on the third week of October and will be recognized for the seventh year October 17-21, 2016, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and around the world. The American Nuclear Society proudly partners with NSW annually.
During the week, educators, students, employers and the community participate in an international recognition of how nuclear science plays a vital role in the lives of Americans - and the world. Activities during the week are intended to build awareness of the contributions of the nuclear science industry and those who work in it every day.
"Since its inception seven years ago, this national nuclear science celebration has grown exponentially each year. We are proud to have Nuclear Science Week represented in five countries, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds," said Jim Walther, Director of the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History and Chair of the NSW Steering Committee. "The contributions of nuclear science are many, and recognizing the importance of nuclear innovations in medicine, energy and social responsibilities is crucial in providing the public with pertinent information about our future as a nation and around the world."
