The American Nuclear Society election will open on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Members can vote for the Society’s next vice president/president-elect and treasurer as well as six board members (four U.S. directors, one non-U.S. director, and one student director). Completed ballots must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

All ANS members will be emailed a unique access key from third-party election vendor ElectionBuddy. Each member can only use their access key to vote once, and each vote will remain anonymous. If members have questions regarding this process, ElectionBuddy support can be reached at ans@electionbuddy.com or on their website’s help page.

About the election: Every year, the ANS election is an opportunity for members to have a direct voice in deciding the direction ANS moves. Elected leaders will be responsible for furthering the Society’s mission of advancing nuclear science and technology by setting its strategic direction in the following year. They will also be responsible for representing the interests of ANS and its members and for ensuring that the Society remains at the forefront of nuclear innovation and discovery.

President-elect: Candidates for the one-year term as vice president/president-elect are Andrew (Andy) Griffith and Mark T. Peters. Griffith, an ANS member since 2013, is a nuclear energy research leader at Battelle and executive director of the Deep Borehole Demonstration Center. Peters, an ANS member since 2007, is the CEO of MITRE, a nonprofit organization that manages federally funded research and development centers.

The treasurer: Candidates for the two-year term as treasurer are Harsh S. Desai and Julie G. Ezold. Desai, an ANS member since 2011 and the current ANS treasurer, is the chief commercialization officer at Zeno Power. Ezold, an ANS member since 1988, is a technical advisor at the DOE’s Office of Science Isotope R&D and Production program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The board: Candidates for the U.S. director positions are Todd Allen, Kostas Dovas, Lin-Wen Hu, John Kotek, Kathryn (Kathy) McCarthy, W. David (Dave) Pointer, Catherine M. Prat, Elizabeth Sooby, Grace Stanke, and Bradley Williams. Candidates for the non-U.S. director position are Deborah A. Hill and Sama Bilbao y León. Candidates for the student director position are Julia Marshall and John Mobley IV.

Further information: Statements from the vice president/president-elect and treasurer candidates can be found here and the statements from the candidates for the board of directors here.

The outcome of the ANS 2025 election will have a significant impact on the future of the Society and the direction of the nuclear industry. Members are strongly encouraged to vote in order to help ensure that ANS continues to play a leading role in promoting the benefits of nuclear science.
