Nuclear Matters urges people to ‘take action,’ contact lawmakers

Pronuclear coalition Nuclear Matters is asking people to help preserve nuclear power and support new technology by writing to members of Congress.
“The future of nuclear power and America’s global energy leadership is at stake, and we need your help,” Nuclear Matters said in messages sent out nationwide. “Your advocacy helped encourage Congress to bolster nuclear energy investment, and now, we need your help reminding them of its importance. As legislators consider reversing course, it’s paramount that we stop this from happening and advocate for continued support for a more affordable, reliable, and secure energy future.”
The group is leading the grassroots effort to solidify financial incentives that lawmakers passed in 2022. Congress is considering redirecting funding earmarked for nuclear energy incentives to unrelated tax provisions in the upcoming federal budget negotiations, according to Nuclear Matters.
“We cannot let nuclear tax credits be used for something other than keeping existing nuclear operating and bringing new nuclear generation on line,” the statement said.
A closer look: Among the benefits the coalition is touting to lawmakers are bolstering national security, reaffirming the nation’s global energy leadership, and supporting roughly 250,000 well-paying jobs.
Nuclear Matters is dedicated to informing the public and policymakers about the benefits of nuclear energy, according to the group’s website. The coalition’s advocacy council includes politicians, academics, scientists, engineers, and military professionals. Some notable Nuclear Matters supporters have publicly criticized nuclear in the past but now support the energy source. These include Carol Browner, who was chair of the Environmental Protection Agency during the former Clinton administration, and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions.
Take action: Nuclear Matters has created a portal for sending pronuclear messages to the 119th Congress.
The group implores everyone to “join advocates across the country in securing America’s brighter energy future, powered by nuclear.”
