ANS is committed to advancing, fostering, and promoting the development and application of nuclear sciences and technologies to benefit society.
Explore the many uses for nuclear science and its impact on energy, the environment, healthcare, food, and more.
Division Spotlight
Thermal Hydraulics
The division provides a forum for focused technical dialogue on thermal hydraulic technology in the nuclear industry. Specifically, this will include heat transfer and fluid mechanics involved in the utilization of nuclear energy. It is intended to attract the highest quality of theoretical and experimental work to ANS, including research on basic phenomena and application to nuclear system design.

International High-Level Radioactive Waste Management 2022 Speaker
Dr. Sharlissa Moore is an environmental justice advisor who works with the environmental justice and stakeholder engagement team in the risk and environmental assessment group in the earth systems science division at PNNL. She is the work package manager for PNNL’s Social Science and Environmental Justice consent-based siting work package. She joined PNNL in January 2022 after being an associate professor at Michigan State University in international energy policy between the public policy and engineering colleges. Her research focuses on energy justice, public perceptions, and social dynamics related to energy transitions. Her previous research projects included stakeholder conflict over renewable energy siting, the feasibility of solar pollinator habitat and agrivoltaics, deployment of behind-the-meter, solar power, transnational grid integration, public perceptions of Generation IV nuclear power, and factors affecting consumer adoption of residential battery storage. Additionally, she published a 2019 book on Morocco’s renewable energy transition and renewable energy cooperation between North Africa and the European Union. Sharlissa is an interdisciplinary social scientist and holds a PhD and MS in human and social dimensions of science and technology from Arizona State University and a BA in astronomy from Smith College.
