Division Spotlight
Thermal Hydraulics
The division provides a forum for focused technical dialogue on thermal hydraulic technology in the nuclear industry. Specifically, this will include heat transfer and fluid mechanics involved in the utilization of nuclear energy. It is intended to attract the highest quality of theoretical and experimental work to ANS, including research on basic phenomena and application to nuclear system design.

Crash Course: The DOE’s Package Performance Demonstration
Inspired by a history of similar testing endeavors and recommended by the National Academy of Sciences and the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, the Department of Energy is planning to conduct physical demonstrations on rail-sized spent nuclear fuel transportation casks. As part of the project, called the Spent Nuclear Fuel Package Performance Demonstration (PPD), the DOE is considering a number of demonstrations based on regulatory tests and realistic transportation scenarios, including collisions, drops, exposure to fire, and immersion in water.

Industry leaders and professionals will share their unique perspectives on the advancement of molten salt technology for next-generation nuclear reactors. The discussion will offer an opportunity to review the current state of different designs, unveil recent breakthroughs, and explore future directions for the commercial deployment of molten salt reactors. Organized by the ANS Thermal-Hydraulics Division Industry Engagement Task Force, this panel will provide a forum for exploring multi-disciplinary topics, discussing strategies in support licensing activities, inspiring innovative research, and cultivating collaborations between industry and academia.
