60 Years of U: Perspectives on resources, demand, and the evolving role of nuclear energy
Recent years have seen growing global interest in nuclear energy and rising confidence in the sector. For the first time since the early 2000s, there is renewed optimism about the industry’s future. This change is driven by several major factors: geopolitical developments that highlight the need for secure energy supplies, a stronger focus on resilient energy systems, national commitments to decarbonization, and rising demand for clean and reliable electricity.
Educational Session|Panel|Sponsored by Plant Reliability
Tuesday, August 6, 2024|1:30–3:00PM EDT|Banyan 2
Parts quality is foundational to a reliable plant. This was affirmed by INPO IER 21-4 (Improving Plant Reliability) in 2021, which included an action to “establish a sustainable parts quality process.” Despite the industry expectation and importance of establishing and maintaining a robust process, there is no single approach used by utilities to implement a parts quality process.
This session will discuss the many approaches the industry has taken to align with INPO’s IER as well as highlight best practices and lessons learned. Key elements covered in this session include:
• Critical part issues that are affecting safety and reliability today.
• Causes of critical part failures and the importance of accurate causal evaluations and failure analysis.
• Importance of supplier performance program engagement.
• Approaches for (and examples of) implementing the recently published INPO What Excellence Looks Like (WELL) sheet, which was provided to help reduce plant reliability events caused by faulty parts and components.
