Fuel Cycle & Waste Management
Devoted to all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle including waste management, worldwide. Division specific areas of interest and involvement include uranium conversion and enrichment; fuel fabrication, management (in-core and ex-core) and recycle; transportation; safeguards; high-level, low-level and mixed waste management and disposal; public policy and program management; decontamination and decommissioning environmental restoration; and excess weapons materials disposition.

Disney World should have gone nuclear
There is extra significance to the American Nuclear Society holding its annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, this past week. That’s because in 1967, the state of Florida passed a law allowing Disney World to build a nuclear power plant.

The objective of this session is to provide a discussion on the nuclear industry 80 & 100 Year Plant License Renewal practices, challenges, and successes. The result would be to provide a better understanding of what is needed to make NPP fleet assets the long-lived platform necessary to develop innovative roles. Areas to be examined include: (1) Lessons Learned; (2) Big Hurdles; (3) Hidden Hurdles; and (4) Challenges that need Industry solutions. Plans for this session include a panel composed of Utility and Industry stakeholders from various levels within the organizations to discuss potential aspects of PLR followed by a facilitated discussion of the participants.
