TerraPower begins U.K. regulatory approval process
Seattle-based TerraPower signaled its interest this week in building its Natrium small modular reactor in the United Kingdom, the company announced.
TerraPower sent a letter to the U.K.’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, formally establishing its intention to enter the U.K. generic design assessment (GDA) process. This is TerraPower’s first step in deployment of its Natrium technology—a 345-MW sodium fast reactor coupled with a molten salt energy storage unit—on the international stage.
Radiation Protection and Shielding Division 2024 (RPSD 2024)
Lydia Tai has been a health physicist for the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center (NARAC) in Livermore, California since 2019. As part of the multidisciplinary operations team at NARAC, she supports emergency planning and response activities and manages NARAC’s international collaborations. Lydia has over 18 years of experience in the Department of Energy complex in both federal and contractor organizations. Her past roles include managing the internal and external dosimetry programs for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and supporting federal oversight of safety programs for the Nevada Field Office.
Lydia has a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Radiation Health Physics from Oregon State University, Corvallis. She has been a Certified Health Physicist since 2016.
