Division Spotlight
Decommissioning & Environmental Sciences
The mission of the Decommissioning and Environmental Sciences (DES) Division is to promote the development and use of those skills and technologies associated with the use of nuclear energy and the optimal management and stewardship of the environment, sustainable development, decommissioning, remediation, reutilization, and long-term surveillance and maintenance of nuclear-related installations, and sites. The target audience for this effort is the membership of the Division, the Society, and the public at large.

Advanced Reactor Fuel Cycles and Simulations
Dr. Holly Trellue, Los Alamos National Laboratory, is an expert in advanced reactor fuel cycles and simulations and is leading several nuclear energy and nonproliferation-related efforts. Dr. Trellue has performed neutronic and depletion simulations on numerous reactor systems over the past 28 years and is the Technical Area Lead for the DOE-NE Microreactor Program. She has significant experience working on reactor/critical experiment simulations, nuclear data, and nonproliferation topics related to reactors as well as nuclear fuel cycle analysis. She earned a PhD in nuclear engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2003 and is now also the leader of the Engineering Institute at LANL.
