Division Spotlight
Operations & Power
Members focus on the dissemination of knowledge and information in the area of power reactors with particular application to the production of electric power and process heat. The division sponsors meetings on the coverage of applied nuclear science and engineering as related to power plants, non-power reactors, and other nuclear facilities. It encourages and assists with the dissemination of knowledge pertinent to the safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities through professional staff development, information exchange, and supporting the generation of viable solutions to current issues.

NDA funds Plutonium Ceramics Academic Hub with U.K. universities
The United Kingdom’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has announced that it will establish a Plutonium Ceramics Academic Hub with the Universities of Manchester and Sheffield. The announcement follows a decision by the U.K. government in January to immobilize the country’s inventory of civil separated plutonium at the Sellafield nuclear site, mitigating the material’s long-term safety and security risks.

The PHYSOR Organizing Committee wants to ensure that students feel welcomed and included in all PHYSOR activities. Therefore, the PHYSOR General Chairs, Professors Max Fratoni and Chris Perfetti, will host a 45-minute Q&A session on anything and everything related to the PHYSOR meeting. Students are encouraged to join this session and bring any questions they may have regarding PHYSOR, the technical program, or any of the exciting events planned for the meeting. Both first-time PHYSOR attendees and PHYSOR veterans are welcome to attend.
